Open End Event

15 September 2022 - 30 March 2023
Overview

For the second time, Open End organized a contemporary art exhibition at the “Cimetière des Rois,” a symbolic site in Geneva that is the resting place of many of the city's most important figures, from Calvin to Jean Piaget, Jeanne Hersch to Grisélidis Réal. Organized by the DART association from September 15, 2022, to January 31, 2023, the exhibition invited artists to explore two highly relevant themes: the depletion of natural resources and the excesses of new technologies.

Titled “Renegotiation,” the exhibition brought together about fifteen works employing various techniques such as sculpture, art installations, and even virtual imagery. It aimed to "see in the cemetery a slightly broken mirror of our modern societies," as stated by Vincent Du Bois, a DART member and participating artist.

Filippo Tincolini contributed with Black Gold, a series of life-sized industrial oil drums reproduced in Carrara marble.

Tincolini’s crumpled oil drums, seen in the context of the “Cimetière des Rois,” served as the monumental tomb of the turbo-capitalist, consumerist, and energy-hungry era in which we live. White and immaculate, they were a powerful symbol of our hypocrisy and false innocence. By creating this final funeral tribute to our bad faith, the artist aimed to highlight the need to envision a world beyond our current lifestyle and time.
